Fever vs Mercury

  • September 9, 2012

Temporary control room set up in a corner of the studio. As I pointed out in the Fever vs Sky blog, Bankers Life Fieldhouse is under going a media upgrade, so everything is under-construction. The temporary control room has been setup in a corner of the studio and looks like a multitude of cables, wires, monitors and keyboards.

We’re using temporary cameras at the moment. They’re lighter, which is great for the shoulder-mounted cameraman, but the lens on the Game Cam isn’t all that great. I can no longer get any tight shots because the lens isn’t long enought.

A new control room being constructed. The old equipment in the A Control Room is gone and being replaced with all new equipment. From what I have seen so far, it’s going to look pretty good when it’s finished.

The game wasn’t anything special. Fever won. I think playoffs are just around the corner.

Bankers Life Fieldhouse is in the middle of overhauling their entire media system.

New Score Boards, new cables, new cameras, new systems, new… everything. The place looks a mess. They even have a temporary score board hanging out on the floor.

I should have taken a picture of it, but I forgot.

Nothing special about the game. The Fever won, easily.

ESPN Shot Sheet of playersWell, this is the last WNBA game until after the London Olympics. Next game will be about a month from now.

Tamika Catchings was selected for her third Olympic team, having previously played on the gold medal USA winning teams at the 2004 and 2008 Olympic Games.

This games was also covered by ESPN.

ESPN Camera InstructionsOnce again the Fever faded in the 2nd half and this time losing to the Sparks 77 to 74.

Fever vs Liberty

They’re now streaming the game over the internet. Which adds a little extra to my camera work because I live by the Tally Light, which indicates when my camera is “live” to program. When that light goes off, I’m quickly readjusting my camera and moving to my next shot.

But with them streaming to the internet, there is no tally light to signify that I’m “live” to the web, unless the director tells me so. Which he may not do. Even though my tally light has gone out, indicating that my camera is no longer “live” to program, I maybe still “live” on the web.

Basically, I now have to think of my camera as being “live” at all times. A minor hassle, but you make the adjustment.

Tamika Catchings scored 23 points, including the winning free throws with 8.4 seconds left, to give the Indiana Fever an 84-82 victory over the New York Liberty.

I shot the video below (and not a very good one) with my iPhone. It’s the walk that I make from the Control Room to my Camera 1. If you’ve never been in Banker’s Life Fieldhouse, this is for you.

The Control Room just after the cameraman's meeting

We had a new man directing today. It was Dean’s first game because I think that Chris and Brian were both out on vacation and I’m guessing they kind of dumped him into the deep end of the pool. But he did real good.

The Fever started out fast in the first half, but faded in the second, again. They finally pulled out a win in overtime, 88 to 86.

After the next two games, the WNBA will be off for a month while the London Olympics is being played.

Game Cam with swivel chair

It’s been awhile since I’ve shot a Fever game, though I have about 3 coming up over the next week or so.

I was the only “up” camera tonight, and it felt kind of lonely up there. But I had lots of room and my camera was set dead center to the court for a change, instead of being pushed off to the sides.

The new Power Box to the lens.

For a moment there, it was looking like I might not shoot at all, because I was having trouble with my Zoom Control. (The camera would not zoom in and out.) The engineer spent a good hour looking the camera over and finally replaced the old power box to the lens with a brand new one, which fixed the problem.

The Fever had a strong first half and were killing with a 20 point lead, but they still managed to lose the game in the second half, 88 to 72.

Worked FAN CAM again for a Fever game.

I think the Circus will be in Bankers Life over the next week. Then in early July, I’ll have 4 more Fever games.

Pacers vs Heat Game 4

  • May 20, 2012

Bankers Life ArenaI shot Fan Cam for the Pacers 4th game with the Miami Heat. I shot the first half and Frank shot the second. There was a lot of hope in the arena that the Pacers could win this one and take a 3 to 1 series lead. But it didn’t happen. The Pacers lead during most of the game, then kind of faded during the 4th.

Pacers vs Heat Shot ListI was also here yesterday shooting the Game Cam for the Fever game, which turned out a lot better. The Fever easily won their game.

By the way, you can find a better image of the Bankers Life Arena that I took a few years ago, in my Location Gallery.

Fever vs San Antonio

The WNBA started today, so this is the first game for the Fever and I was back on High CAM.

The arena was about a 3rd empty, but a lot of kids were there for the game.

Fever won!

Pacers vs Magic Game 5

  • May 8, 2012

Moments away from victory!Fifth game of the series with the Pacers leading 3 games to 1. But this is where the Pacers needed to end this, and they did with a 105 to 87 victory.

Instead of High CAM, I was shooting Fan CAM tonight. My job is to walk around the arena, with a camera attached to a wireless pack, and during the breaks and time-outs shoot live Jacob at work during 2nd half.commercials with a host, along with a lot of fans that the other cameras can’t get to.

It’s a lot of running around and up and down stairs and escalators, and it requires, two people working the camera. I shot the first half and my Shot Sheetpartner Jacob Lindauer shot the 2nd half.

The shot sheet on the right, shows when, where and what is to appear on the arena screens during the game. The orange highlights are the Fam Cam shots and where and what we should be shooting at any given time.

Pacers vs 76ers

I was suppose to work replay this game but I think that somebody cancelled out and I was switched back to Game Cam.

The Pacers didn’t seem up to this game. Most of the time, they played like they didn’t care and only put an effort into it in spurts. They trailed throughout most of the game, but came close to tying at the end of the first half and tied at the end of the game forcing a over-time. But they still lost in the end.

The next game I shoot for them will probably be a playoff game.
